It's winter, time to consider garden storage options

As the nights draw in and gardeners retreat into various levels of hibernation, all the gardening equipment, furniture, tools and summer paraphernalia needs to be tucked up for a few months.

So what are my garden storage options for storing my bike or garden furniture?

Sheds:

These are the obvious choice to house a lot of garden gear over winter. A new shed will not leak, will not be home to mice and will keep things safe if secured with a lock. It also enables easy access should the sunshine, the winter is mild and a quick mow is just what's needed. Sheds come in all sizes and if a traditional wooden version doesn't suit your garden design then metal and plastic versions are also available.

Storage chests:

Smaller garden storage chests are great as they fit snugly into corners and are ideal for furniture cushions and items you may need quick access to. Again, a padlock will make everything secure.

Bike storage:

We all know they clutter up a corridor in the house so it's better for all to put the bike away in a purpose-made bike store. You can still get the bike out quickly for an invigorating cycle ride to blast away the winter blues.

Always use a lock on any of your storage options and consider installing security lighting. Winter is dark and, therefore, easier for burglars – if you don’t have mains power running outside, solar powered versions are superb.
