All our large wooden playhouses have safety-conscious designs. They are manufactured using the finest carpentry skills with strong joints for structural integrity.

Our entire range complies with BS EN 71 (CE) – the safety of toys standards and has shatterproof Styrene safety glazing.

Standard features

Our entire range has the following standard features:

• Anti-rot guarantee – all our large outdoor playhouses have an anti-rot guarantee of between one and ten years (included within the cost)
• Dip treated – the entire range is dip treated to protect the wood
• Doors – expect single or double doors
• Safety standards compliance – as was said earlier, the entire range complies with BS EN 71 (CE)
• Tongue and groove cladding – our entire range has either standard or shiplap tongue and groove cladding, this is both decorative and adds structural strength and integrity
• Windows – expect anywhere up to five windows in a range of decorative styles, shapes, and designs

Other features

The following are either integral to certain large wooden playhouses or can be bought as add-ons:

• Base kit – some playhouses can be bought with a base kit. This avoids needing to lay your own slabs or concrete as a base
• Floor upgrade – all flooring is safe, but there is an option to upgrade to heavy-duty flooring, including adding extra wooden floor bearers
• Installation – an installation service can be bought with some large outdoor playhouses
• Second storey – loft area accessible through a ladder or steps, some are enclosed by a balustrade and
• Treatment:
  • pressure treated – upgrade from standard dip treated to pressure treated
  • water repellent stain - to increase fungal resistance and longevity

Naturally, all Shedstore-supplied large outdoor playhouses are supplied with a floor. But, even so, a base being placed is strongly advisable underneath the floor.

As we said earlier, base kits can be bought on some of our big playhouses for outside. These would be particularly ideal as they are tailor-made to each playhouse.

Many people decide to build their own bases from concrete slabs, gravel/tarmac, interlocking pavers, and wooden decking as just a few examples.

An important aspect to remember is that the base MUST BE FLAT. A quality base will help to avoid the playhouse from becoming damp, will prevent weeds from working their way through and also will help to deter insects and “creepy crawlies” from entering from below.
