Garden cottages and shed houses
A garden house is a fantastic addition to any outdoor space, offering the ideal place to help you unwind after a hard day at work. Our garden houses are available in a whole host of different styles and sizes. With both traditional and contemporary summer houses on offer, there’s something for everyone, whether it be a garden cottage or more of a shed house.
Commonly, they have large windows to allow plenty of light in and are often painted calming colours like blue or light green. This helps create a peaceful atmosphere inside, which is why so many home owners use summer houses to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life.
How can I use garden houses?
Garden houses can be used for a multitude of purposes, not just relaxation rooms.
For instance, they make perfect playrooms. If you’re tired of clearing up toys in your house, a dedicated space in the garden could be a superb solution.
Garden houses make fantastic outdoor studios, meeting and socialising space, games rooms and garden cottages too. What better place to create art than in the tranquil setting of your own garden?
Adding good lighting and a power supply enables you to make the most of your building. One option is to have a qualified electrician connect it up to the mains supply. Alternatively, you could invest in some solar panels and generate your own electricity.
Solar-based systems are the simplest and safest way to light up your summer house. They’re easy to install and cost effective. Some of our solar units’ battery hubs can even be used to charge mobile devices, laptops, and other small appliances.
Furthermore, some of our designs incorporate separate storage sections. A dedicated storage shed area allows you to stow away your garden tools without disrupting and cluttering your summer house.
Dual purpose summer shed houses are the future of garden buildings!
What style of wooden summer houses do you provide?
We have a superb range of wooden summer houses for sale online, with options to suit every budget. If you’re interested in more premium buildings, be sure to choose a tongue and groove building.
Tongue and groove summer houses, whether traditional or shiplap, are built from thick, interlocking timber boards forming panels which are affixed to thick frames. This creates a strong, robust structure which prevents against water penetration and wind.
The key difference between the two is that traditional tongue and groove has a flatter aesthetic while shiplap panels have a channel running horizontally which allows water to run off even more efficiently.
Be sure to check roof and floor specifications too. Premium summer houses will have 12mm thick tongue and groove roof and floor panels. Solid flooring is a must-have if you’re intending on having heavy furniture, office equipment or games tables in your building. Heavy duty roof panels are both weathertight and durable.
Both shiplap and tongue and groove wooden summer houses are high quality and built to last. If you’re interested in a building suitable for usage throughout the whole year, however, a log cabin could be the best option instead.
What are pressure treated garden houses?
To get the best value garden building, choose a pressure treated summer house. These structures are guaranteed for an impressive 15 years against rot and fungal decay. There is no need for further maintenance either, so you don’t have to spend time and money on annual retreatment.
Can summer houses be used all year round?
As we said earlier, for all year round usage a log cabin is the best option. The word “summer” should not be used too literally though as many of our past customers we know use summer houses all year round. For more comfortable options in colder months consider buying a double glazed summer house.
Do Shed Store have cheap garden houses available and what do they cost?
As well as more premium buildings, we also supply a wide range of cheap garden houses. Typically, cheaper options are built using dip treated, overlap timber. Prices start at just over £500 for basic 6’ x 4’ styles.
Overlap construction involves affixing vertically overlapping slats of timber to a sturdy frame. This allows rainwater to quickly drain off. Our dip treated products are guaranteed for 10 years against rot and fungal decay, provided they are treated annually with a high-quality wood preservative.
Cheap summer houses are perfect for those purchasing their first outdoor building, or for those with smaller gardens. For the highest quality garden houses, such as our Palmako log cabins, prices can exceed £16,000, but these are much larger buildings with the biggest being 7.8m x 4.8m and include high quality, thick 70mm Nordic spruce interlocking logs, 19mm tongue and groove roof and floor and double glazing throughout.
For anything in between, be sure to view our full range.
